9.10.08 | Portland, ME | Mercy Health System completed the first phase of its master plan created by Francis Cauffman Architects. The firm also designed the buildings for the campus, a $49.5 million short stay hospital and a $16 million medical office building. 

9.9.08 | Princeton, NJ | Global Education Studio, part of U.K. architectural firm RMJM, announced that it will design two new college campuses in Libya. The projects mark the first time U.S. architects will work in Libya since relations between the two countries normalized, according to RMJM. The firm is designing a master plan for a 123-acre branch campus at Bani Walid, approximately three hours inland from the main campus. The second project will be to design a master plan for a 222 acre branch campus of Al Asmariya University slated to open in three years.

9.9.08 | Norwalk, CT | EMCOR Group, Inc. subsidiary Welsbach Electric will provide the electrical construction services for a water treatment plant in Westchester County, NY. Awarded by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, Welsbach Electric will be responsible for the complete electrical installation associated with the construction of the project’s two billion gallon-per-day ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection facility.

9.5.08 | Chicago, IL | The Inland Steel Building, a landmark building in Chicago, IL, is in the planning stages of a $40-million overhaul. An investment group including New York-based Capital Properties LLC and celebrity architect Frank Gehry has asked two city panels to sign off on the renovation plan for the glass-and-steel structure, originally completed in 1958. One goal is to restore many elements of the building to their original appearance. The ownership group plans to have the tower
LEED-certified.
