Perkins+Will Chosen To Design Tropical Research Centre

7.3.08 | San Francisco | Perkins+Will, following an international design competition, was retained by Singapore's National Research Foundation to design “CREATE” (Campus for Research Excellence And Technological Enterprise). CREATE'’s design will pioneer the tropical use of advanced environmental and energy-saving technologies such as wind turbines driven by tropical breezes and enthalpy wheels that capture wind-generated warmth. The project is scheduled for completion in 2010.


Herzog & de Meuron, Anish Kapoor Receive Major Commission

The project design will be revealed in the fall, 2008. Shen Milsom & Wilke To Provide Services For Dubai Hospital

7.1.08 | New York, NY | Shen Milsom & Wilke, working with architectural and engineering firm Ellerbe Becket, will provide integrated technology services to the new University Hospital in Dubai Healthcare City. Partners Harvard Medical International, a subsidiary of Harvard Medical School that provides planning services to healthcare entities worldwide, is responsible for defining the requirements for the 400-bed teaching hospital. The facility will be linked to Harvard Medical School Dubai Center. Shen Milsom & Wilke's services include technology master planning and design of information technology, multimedia, and security systems. A completion date is set for 2010.


EMCOR Subsidiaries Awarded Contracts For New Cardiovascular Center

7.1.08 | Norwalk, CT | EMCOR Group, Inc. announced that its Dynalectric Company and University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors, Inc. (UMEC) subsidiaries were awarded contracts to provide the entire electrical and mechanical infrastructure for the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center’s new 128,000 sq. ft. Sulpizio Family Cardiovascular Center. Dynalectric will provide all electrical systems for the facility and UMEC will provide the HVAC. 


Skanska Named Construction Manager For Le Bonheur Hospital

7.1.08 | Memphis, TN | Skanska USA Building Inc. was  named construction manager for the Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center project in Memphis, TN. FKP Architects  partnered with Memphis firm Self Tucker Architects Inc. to provide the design services for the 610,000 sq. ft. hospital. A 2010 completion date expected. The facility will hold 225 beds with units designed for pediatric intensive care, cardiovascular intensive care, and neonatal intensive care. 


Andres Escobar Modernizes NY Times Building Lobby

6.26.08 | New York, NY | Andres Escobar created an architectural concept that ushers the former home of the New York Times for 95 years into modern times. After a $175 million gut renovation, commissioned by Africa Israel Investments, the historic building, located at 229 W. 43rd Street in New York City, will reopen on September 18, 2008 as the Times Square Building. Working with materials such as mirror-finish stainless steel columns, sleek, white glass, and Italian marble, Mr. Escobar's design will expand the lobby of the landmarked building to twice its original size, doubling the ceiling heights to 29-ft.
