Andres Escobar Modernizes NY Times Building Lobby
6.26.08 | New York, NY | Andres Escobar
created an architectural concept that ushers the former home of the
New York Times for 95 years into modern times. After a $175
million gut renovation, commissioned by Africa Israel Investments, the historic building, located at 229 W. 43rd
Street in New York City, will reopen on September 18, 2008 as the Times
Square Building. Working with materials such as mirror-finish stainless steel
columns, sleek, white glass, and Italian marble, Mr. Escobar's design
will expand the lobby of the landmarked building to twice its original
size, doubling the ceiling heights to 29-ft.
