6.3.08 | Milford, CT | Skanska USA Building Inc. completed its work on the CyberKnife Center at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, CT.  CyberKnife is a new technology used for fighting cancer and other tumors using x-ray beams to attack tumors, while preserving surrounding healthy cells. Skanska provided pre-construction and construction management services to this project that began in September 2007. The Center is part of a larger five-year construction program contracted to Skanska USA. 

5.29.08 | New York, NY | The Woodrow Wilson Bridge in Washington, D.C. received the 2008 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award (OCEA) from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Design and construction of the bridge was led by Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) in a joint venture with Potomac Crossing consultants. The award is given to the project that “best illustrates superior civil engineering skills and represents a significant contribution to civil engineering progress and society. The new bridge over the Potomac River between Virginia and Maryland consists of two side-by-side drawbridge spans carrying 12 lanes of traffic. 

5.29.08 | Charleston, WV | Swanke Hayden Connell Architects, NYC, was selected by the state of West Virginia to design a rehabilitation plan for Holly Grove Mansion. The building retains a significant amount of historic fabric but suffers from antiquated mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, structural deficiencies and unsympathetic architectural modifications resulting in an incongruous appearance of the building interior. The building also suffers from deterioration and deferred maintenance to its exterior envelope and does not provide compliant access for the disabled. Swanke Hayden Connell Architects

5.22.08 | New York, NY | Perkins+Will was selected by the New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) and the New York Police Department (NYPD) to design the 3 million sq. ft. Police Academy campus in College Point, Queens. The project will consolidate the Police Academy into one location and will include a main instruction building, field house, firearms and tactical training facility, Police Museum visiting lecturer accommodations, parking garage, tactical village, rescue training, outdoor track, outdoor muster deck, and driver training.
