Thornton Tomasetti Foundation Awards First Scholarship

School of Design and Construction (UASDC) received a $5,000 Thornton
Tomasetti Foundation scholarship at a ceremony at UASDC in New
York City. The Thornton Tomasetti Foundation was established in
February 2008 in honor of David A. Thurm to support the education and community outreach activities
of young engineers and architects.
Bendheim West Names New Sales Account Manager

to joining Bendheim, Ms. Francis served three years as showroom sales
manager for American Slate Company in San Francisco, Calif., handling
high-profile projects, and assisting architects and designers with
project specifications.
Ben van Berkel, Zaha Hadid Chosen For Burnham Centennial
7.15.08 | Chicago, IL | Zaha Hadid and Ben van Berkel will design temporary pavilions in Millennium Park as part of the regional celebration of the 100th anniversary of Daniel Burnham's Plan of Chicago. The pavilions will open next June, and will
include video exhibits and programming related to Mr. Burnham.
Lou Newett, Knoll, Receives Sustainable Leadership Award
7.15.08 | East Greenville, PA | Lou Newett, Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for Knoll received a leadership award from the Institute for Market Transformation to Sustainability (MTS). MTS is the developer of the SMaRT Sustainable Product Standard. Mr. Newett was honored following an orientation program on the SMaRT Standard. Mr. Newett was recognized for his contributions
to the development of the SMaRT Standard. He was
part of the voting process that made having a
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) a requirement for
SMaRT certification. The Knoll Life chair was recently rated
Sustainable Gold under the SMaRT Standard.
Joseph Frueh Elected Vice Chair Of ALA's Exhibits Round Table

IFMA Names Liz A. Ely Director Of Strategic Event Management
7.15.08 | Houston, TX | Liz A. Ely was named Director of Strategic Event Management for IFMA, the International Facility Management Association. Ms. Ely will be responsible for advancing IFMA's events
and programs to greater levels of influence, participation and prominence
worldwide. She will also negotiate and manage partnerships with
other associations and organizations participating in IFMA events. Before joining IFMA, Ms. Ely served as the director of meetings at Veterinary
Learning Systems.
IFMA Foundation Names 2008-2009 Board of Trustees

Members ofthe IFMA Foundation board of trustees serve a two-year term and aretasked with managing the foundation and guiding it in its efforts toserve the facility management profession. Thomas Schwab and David White Join Schonbek to Lead Marketing

David White will head up all sales, marketing and product development activities as the VP of Sales and Marketing. Most recently he was Vice President, Sales and Distribution of the
Contract Office Furniture Division of Kimball International, Inc. Previously he was President of Bush Furniture, North America, and prior
to that served as vice president of several divisions at HNI, including
Allsteel and Hon Company. Thomas Schwab was named Marketing Manager and will work with David White to formulate and implement the marketing
strategy, focused on growing market share. Mr. Schwab has held various marketing positions at Swarovski
headquarters in Wattens, Austria since 2004. Most recently he was project
leader in the development and marketing of the StarLED and
StarLED Deluxe product lines.
Jeffrey Stutz Joins izzy
7.11.08 | Spring Lake, MI | Jeffrey Stutz joined izzy, Spring Lake, MI, as chief financial officer. Mr. Stutz has 15 years of
experience in financial reporting and management, most recently as assistant
corporate controller and director of finance for Herman Miller. He also was international
accounting manager and divisional controller for global automotive supplier
Donnelly Corporation and held auditor positions with global tax, auditing and
consulting firm Deloitte & Touche.
Trendway Presents 2008 Scholarships
7.10.08 | Holland, MI | Trendway presented the 2008 George and Lucille Heeringa
Design Scholarships to Stephanie Gromer and William Oltman.
Ms. Gromer is an interior design major and
an intern at ROI Design. She is planning on
becoming LEED certified before she graduates. Her
goal is to be a designer who is known for unique
uses of material that benefit people and the environment. Mr. Oltman is an industrial design student with a minor in architecture from Illinois Institute of Technology. He has three
internships one at 2B Studio working on product
design, development, and research; a second at
Bonnette Designs where he primarily does graphic
design; and a third with the Grand Rapids Police
Department where he assists the public in
answering questions and writing reports.
The $1,000 award, which was created in honor of
Trendway's founding proprietors George and
Lucille Heeringa, is offered annually to design
students at Kendall College in Grand Rapids, MI.
The winners are selected on the basis of
scholastic aptitude, leadership abilities,
community involvement, and volunteerism.
Gregg Belvin Joins DIRTT
7.10.08 | Calgary, Canada | Gregg Belvin joined DIRTT Environmental Solutions as sales representative for New Jersey. Mr. Belvin will be working with the New Jersey DIRTT Distribution Partner Office Furniture Partnership. He previously worked at Steelcase, leaving in 2002 to join a dealership and then went on to develop an Architectural and Technology Products group.
