Knoll's Research Into Future of Cubicles Covered in Forbes

6.12.06 | Greenville, PA | Knoll was featured in “Cube With A View,” a Forbes article by Jack Gage, last week. The article noted that although cubicles accounted for 58% of the manufacturer’s total sales from 2003-2005, they “have represented smaller portions of the top line each year.” Mr. Gage reports that Knoll “asked 127 corporate executives what changes, they feel, must be addressed during the next several years to maintain productivity at work. . . . respondents cited a shift in the ratio of individual to common space (from 80-to-20 to 60-to-40) as crucial to increasing worker efficiency, and attendance.” According to Christine Barber, Knoll’s head of research, quoted in the story, “collaborative work” is key. As a result, Mr. Gage writes, “Knoll’s new and improved AutoStrada units . . . sport lower ‘barriers’ separating employees, less room and no overhead filing cabinets, yielding an unobstructed line of sight across the entire floor of desks.”
