Seaport: Re-envisioning the Urban
Edge is an
exhibition from July 17 through September 20,
2008 that showcases 37 prospective designs resulting from the third Biennial Ideas
Competition launched by the Emerging New
York Architects Committee (ENYA) of the AIA
NY. The competition required the design of a new pier over the water south of the
Brooklyn
Bridge. The Exhibition will be held at The Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Place, NYC.
Trendway Presents 2008 Scholarships
7.10.08 | Holland, MI | Trendway presented the 2008 George and Lucille Heeringa
Design Scholarships to Stephanie Gromer and William Oltman.
Ms. Gromer is an interior design major and
an intern at ROI Design. She is planning on
becoming LEED certified before she graduates. Her
goal is to be a designer who is known for unique
uses of material that benefit people and the environment. Mr. Oltman is an industrial design student with a minor in architecture from Illinois Institute of Technology. He has three
internships one at 2B Studio working on product
design, development, and research; a second at
Bonnette Designs where he primarily does graphic
design; and a third with the Grand Rapids Police
Department where he assists the public in
answering questions and writing reports.
The $1,000 award, which was created in honor of
Trendway's founding proprietors George and
Lucille Heeringa, is offered annually to design
students at Kendall College in Grand Rapids, MI.
The winners are selected on the basis of
scholastic aptitude, leadership abilities,
community involvement, and volunteerism.
Heathcare Environment Awards Set For November

AIA/HUD Secretary Awards Recognize Four Housing Projects

architecture, neighborhood design, participatory

KTGY Receives AIA's IDP Firm Award
7.8.08 | Irvine, CA | AIA Intern Development Program Advisory Committee awarded KTGY Group, INC. with the 2008-2011 IDP Firm Award for its commitment to providing its
interns with mentoring, supervising, and training opportunities and making the
path to licensure an integral part of the firm’s culture. KTGY has
been involved with the IDP program since 1995.
NKBA And GE Recognize Students And "Green" Designers
7.8.08 | Hackettstown, NJ and Louisville, KY | GE Monogram will sponsor a new award category in the National Kitchen & Bath Association Design Competition. The Best
Sustainable Kitchen Award will honor those designers who have created the
most environmentally-responsible kitchens throughout the year.
In its 37th year, the NKBA Design Competition is open to NKBA members,
celebrating their design skills in planning safe, functional, and
personalized spaces. The 2009 Call for
Entries will be announced by the NKBA later this summer. In further NKBA news, GE will sponsor the NKBA Student Charette, a competition that awards more
than $20,000 in scholarships to design students from NKBA Accredited and
Supported colleges. Given a list of GE appliance specifications, the
kitchen floorplan, and the homeowner's wish list, students are allotted
only three hours to design the perfect kitchen that meets all the
client's needs using the available appliances in the space
provided.
