The company announced revenues of $901.8 million and a net income of $31.4 million, or $0.23 per share, ahead of company estimates.Reported revenue represented an increase of 9.3% compared to $825.2million in the prior year quarter.

9.23.08 | Washington, DC | The Architecture Billings Index shows continuing unfavorable conditions for the nonresidential construction market. There is, however, continued demand for projects such as schools, hospitals and government buildings with the institutional category of the ABI remaining positive going all the way back to 2004.

9.18.08 | Zeeland, MI | Herman Miller announced results for its first quarter of fiscal year 2009. Earnings per share were $0.60, an increase of 11.1% over the same period in the prior year. Operating earnings improved to 11.8% of sales from the prior year same period 10.9%. Significant increases in raw material costs were offset by a 7.0% year-over-year reduction in operating expenses. Sales declined 2.6% from the prior year, primarily from softness in the U.S. Office Furniture market, although orders increased 10.6%.
