3.10.08 | London, UK | The Stephen Lawrence Centre was recently damaged by vandals, barely a week after it opened, causing more that £120,000 of damage and is being considered as a racial attack. The centre, built to inspire young people to pursue careers in architecture, was named for Stephen Lawrence who was murdered by the age of 18 in 1993. The centre's curriculum and outreach activities primarily target young people, age 14-25 who are living in poverty. 

3.7.08 | Philadelphia, PA | –Daroff Design Inc + DDI Architects, Philadelphia, PA, was recently awarded two hospitality commissions: Loews Atlanta Hotel and the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. Loews hotel, located in the heart of Atlanta's cultural district, is designed to feature 414 guest rooms and suites, a fitness center and spa services, a signature restaurant, lobby bar and more than 24,000-square feet of ballroom and meeting space. The first phase of the Revel Casino and Hotel project includes a tower, designed by Arquitectonica, which will be bisected vertically by a shaft of light. The tower will sit on top of the casino and is expected to be the tallest building in Atlantic City. Ranked in the top 10 in the U.S. for market share in hospitality projects by Interior Design magazine, Daroff Design is recognized for its specialty in the design of hospitality, gaming and entertainment facilities. 

3.7.08 | Washington, DC | Nestor Santa-Cruz was named a design director for the Washington, DC office of Gensler. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Santa-Cruz was a partner at SKB Architecture and Design. He has over 20 years of corporate interior architecture and has been featured in Interior Design, Contract Design, Architectural Record, and The Washington Post. www.gensler.com

3.7.08 | Seattle, WA | Mithun plans to open an office in San Francisco, CA, and has hired Sandy Mendler as principal for the new office. Ms. Mendler previously was senior vice president and design principal for HOK and brings more than 20 years of experience.

3.6.08 | Raleigh, NC | Centrepoint Architecture, PA, will merge with Strahan Associates as of March 2008. The Raleigh based firms will retain Centrepoint Architecture's name and corporate headquarters. 

3.6.08 | Chicago, IL | Anne T. Sullivan joined Thornton Tomasetti, Inc., as Vice President in charge of establishing a historic preservation practice sector in the Chicago office. As a senior associate with Johnson Lasky Architects in Chicago over the past 15 years, Ms. Sullivan was involved with a number of Thornton Tomasetti projects, including Edgewater Beach Apartments exterior wall restoration in Chicago and the Martin Mitchell Mansion structural evaluation in Naperville, IL. 

3.6.08 | Boston, MA | Cubellis joined studio costa & partners, an architectural firm based in Rome, Italy, to form a new operating entity, Cubellis Costa International (CCI), enabling expansion into the Middle Eastern Gulf States. To capitalize on rapid growth and high-value design and engineering opportunities in Dubai, CCI acquired Dubai-based Eronat Engineering Consultancy.
