FOA Reveal Design For Institute Of Legal Medicine

3.5.08 | London, UK | Foreign Office Architects finalized its design for the Institute of Legal Medicine in Madrid, part of the masterplan for the Campus de la Justicia.  FOA's 14,000 sq.m. spherical design, so stipulated in the masterplan, is the first step in the plan and will provide space for forensic medicine.  A euphemism for a morgue, the institute can cope with large-scale disasters. The building is due for completion in 2009.

City Tech Tower Plans Dropped

3-5.08 | New York, NY | Bruce Ratner, developer, announced that the plans for the Renzo Piano-designed City Tech Tower in downtown Brooklyn were dropped, an agreement mutually agreed upon by both sides. The 1,000 ft. tower with dorm and lab would have been Brooklyn's tallest building. CUNY still plans to build its dorm and lab in a building with only 10 stories.

Steven Holl Architects Designs Chengdu China Project

2.29.08 | New York, NY | Steven Holl Architects was commissioned by CapitaLand China to design a mixed-use complex in Chengdu, China. Calling it a 'Sliced Porosity Block', the building is made up of five towers with a multi-level plaza in the center of the complex. The towers, designed for offices, apartments retail, hotel, cafes and restaurants, have a geometric exterior and are heated and cooled geo-thermally.
