3rd Annual Canstruction Winners Announced

Connecticut law Provision Struck Down

7.29.09 | New Haven, CT | Judge Mark R. Kravitz struck down a provision of Connecticut law that dictates who may use the title of "interior designer. Judge Kravitz ruled that the statue was unconstitutional because it restricted "commercial speech."

Alphaville Sues Knoll Over Mies van der Rohe Furniture Designs

7.29.09 | Fremont, CA | Alphaville Design filed a declaratory relief lawsuit against Knoll Inc. in San Francisco, CA. Alphaville Design's lawsuit seeks to overturn Knoll's trade dress claims that it has exclusive rights to the 1920's Mies van der Rohe "Barcelona" furniture designs.

OFDA Conference To Be Held October 4-6

Bendheim Launches Web-Based Continuing Education Program

7.29.09 | Passaic, NJ | Bendheim Wall Systems Inc. launched a web-based continuing education program for AIA and state credit on channel glass wall systems. Participation in the 1.5 hour program is free-of-charge and earns industry professionals 1.5 Health, Safety, and Welfare learning units (HSW LU). The program also qualifies for Sustainable Design (AIA SD) credit, a new continuing education requirement for AIA members. The course offers a review of the structural properties and design benefits of channel glass wall systems and includes sections on performance, installation, current standards, and case studies of channel glass in LEED-certified installations. Mark Nemschoff Appointed To Herman Miller Board

The HON Company's Chicago Showroom Receives LEED-CI Silver Certification

The space was redesigned to embrace the direction of HON's newest products and exhibits design features. HON partnered with SmithGroup on the redesign of the showroom. The space maximizes daylight and views with an open pavilion of flexible zones arranged into four main lateral pavilions. HON used recycled materials throughout, including doors, glass, carpet and custom recycling bins.

UNStudio Releases Design For Raffles City Development

7.27.09 | Hangzhou, China | UNStudio of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, revealed its design for the mixed-use Raffles City development in Hangzhou, China. The 60-story project will include retail, offices, housing, and hotel facilities . Completion is expected in 2012, and UNStudio expects the project to receive LEED Gold certification.
