7.10.09 | Green Bay, WI | KI hosted its first "Pump Up the Glam" shoe party in Coral Gables, FL. Designers, architects and KI staff modeled their fanciest footwear designed
using collections from Pallas Textiles. The event was more than a networking party; it was a contest among design
firms. The first 100 respondents could participate in
the contest, where contestants had to “glam
up” a pair of shoes or boots — and a shoe box — using Pallas
Textiles. The best shoe designs won prizes for the winning firms valued at
$500, including a grand prize of happy hour hosted by KI and carpet
manufacturer J&J Invision.

certification for its
Atlanta showroom. The showroom features daylight and window views available to more than 90%
of occupants,
Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood, and low-flow plumbing fixtures. Measures were taken to divert 50% of onsite construction waste and to use locally recycled and renewable material.

from registered sustainable projects. The top 100 generated $2.85 billion in revenue in 2008

7.9.09 | La Palma, CA | Arcadia announced the launch of Achella, a lounge collection featuring
straight and tapered lines. Achella is the inaugural collaboration between Arcadia and industrial
product designer Christopher Panichella. Achella Occasional Tables are available in round, square and rectangle shapes and
come in an array of sizes. The Achella
Lounge series in lounge, love seat, and sofa models, feature scalloped seat cushions and shapely interior contours,
all of which is encased in a modern angular frame. The signature metal
leg combines with wood and upholstered elements to convey a clean,
accessible aesthetic.

7.09.09 | Chicago, IL | HOK completed its design of Phase One for the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research at UW's School of Medicine and Public Health. Phase One included master planning and building design of a 469,000 sq. ft. East Tower at the health sciences campus. The seven-story tower will house the UW Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive
Cancer Center as well as Radiation and Imaging Sciences,
Orthopedics and Regenerative Medicine Research, Medical Physics, and a
Vivarium.
When all phases are complete, the WIMR project will total nearly 1.2
million sq. ft. and will feature three research towers that radiate
around a center point.

Plastics Design Competition award for Furniture. The Alliance for Plastics Processors gave the Embody chair a top score for the innovative material chemistry integrated into the flexible, pixilated seat and back. Herman Miller supplier BASF was recognized for
its role in developing the material
chemistry and suppliers Cascade Engineering and ITW Dahti
were recognized as component molders.

7.8.09 | Chicago, IL | Environmental Systems Design completed the LEED Gold “Greenfield” data center for Allstate in Northwestern Illinois. The project was named
Green Data Center of the Year as part of the Data
Center Executive of the Year National Awards competition.
ESD designed the mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems
for the project and acted as the sustainability consultant.

from projects actively seeking certification from major third-party
