stated that lifting 100 pounds from the floor was safe, and 11% stated that
lifting 200 pounds was safe—loads that are widely known to be unsafe in
industrial environments. Study results

2008 to promote safe, low-voltage direct-current
(DC) power distribution and use in commercial building interiors. The EMerge standard will
give commercial building owners a way to maximize room and floor
reconfigurations and stop the cycle of one-time fixture and device
use.
Configura will work with EMerge members and their customers who need
a simple tool to specify configurable lighting systems, ceilings, walls
and floors, and related electrical devices and power
infrastructure.

Environmental Keynote speaker for IIDEX/NeoCon Canada and the Green Building Festival. Mr. Peñalosa will present a keynote address on the
topic of “What Makes a Good City?” on September 24, 2009 at 4pm.
In his three year term as Mayor of Bogata, Columbia, Mr. Peñalosa promoted a city model, giving priority to children
and public spaces and restricting private car use, building sidewalks, bicycle paths, pedestrian streets, greenways,
and parks. Mr. Peñalosa also led efforts to improve Bogotá‘s marginal
neighborhoods through citizen involvement; planted more than 100,000
trees and created a bus-based transit system.

- Color Effects in a Hospital Room: The experiment examined whether individual differences in environmental
sensitivity influenced emotional responses (i.e., stress, arousal) and
cognitive appraisal toward different colors in a simulated hospital room.
- Environmental Health PVC Emissions Higher in Completed Buildings: The study compared emissions from stand-alone PVC materials versus those used in combination with adhesives
in completed buildings.
