10.1.08 | Miami, FL | Brazilian designers Humberto and Fernando Campana will receive the Designer of the Year Award at Design Miami/.The award was given to the brothers for their contribution to contemporary mass manufactured as well as limited edition design. In keeping with Design Miami/ tradition, the Campana brothers will
create an installation designed exclusively for the December 3-6 show to be
presented within the central courtyard of the fair’s new temporary
structure designed by New York architects ArandaLasch.

10.1.08 | Newark, NJ | Thornton Tomasetti promoted Chris Christoforou and Anjana Kadakia. The two were named senior vice president/principal for the Newark, NJ office. Mr. Christoforou, who joined the firm in 1985, was recently project
manager for the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. and for The Edge
residential complex on the waterfront in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Ms. Kadakia joined Thornton Tomasetti in 1984 and has served as a
key player for some of
the most notable sports facilities, including the new football stadium at the Meadowlands for the
Giants and Jets NFL teams in East Rutherford, N.J.

10.1.08 | New York, NY | The Thornton Tomasetti Foundation awarded New York University $15,000 for scholarships. The awards were given to two students, one studying engineering, the other, architecture. According to Mr. Tomasetti, the scholarship gift was made in honor of the signing of the formal affiliation between New York University and

10.1.08 | Baltimore, MD | DBI Architects won the PRIME TIME competition to design GSA's Integrated Workplace Acquisition Center Booth. A call to design firms went
out to enter proposals for designing the space and three firms
submitted proposals: DBI Architects, IA Interior Architects and
Stratton Design Source. DBI Architects won the competition
with over 2,900 votes. PRIME DESIGN will be unveiled at NeoCon East on October 29.

Loxon XP can be applied to fresh concrete and masonry less than 28 days
old and cures more quickly than standard coatings, so construction
schedules can be accelerated. Designed for use on tilt-up, pre-cast or
poured-in-place concrete, as well as concrete masonry units, cement
block and stucco surfaces, Loxon XP provides resistance to

examines the scope of the problem, describes the statutes surrounding

Museum opened a retrospective on the works of designer George Nelson (1908-1986). The exhibition is divided into five subject areas:
- Nelson and the House
- Corporate Design
- The Office
- Exhibition Design
- Nelson as an author, editor, and one of the
most important thinkers and visionaries in the
realm of twentieth-century design.
Mr. Nelson was not only active in the fields of architecture and
design, but was also a widely respected writer
and publicist, lecturer, curator, and a
passionate photographer. His office produced
numerous furnishings and interior designs that
became modern classics, including the Coconut
Chair (1956), the Marshmallow Sofa (1956), the
Ball Clock (1947) and the Bubble Lamps (1952
onwards). The exhibition runs through March 1, 2009.

Designed by Finnish architect, Rainer Mahlamak, the project was praised for its use of the curved wall inspired by the biblical story of the splitting of the Red Sea. Robert Konieczny, Promes Studio, Katowice, Poland also received awards for two designs of a one-family house.
