12.31.07 | Parsippany, NJ | Skanska USA began construction of the Robertet Flavors' 60,000 sq. ft. liquid compounding addition in Piscataway, NJ. The facility, scheduled to open at the end of 2008, will house a liquids compounding area, an office mezzanine, support spaces and expanded warehousing.

12.31.07 | Kennesaw, GA | The Mohawk Group received the 2007 Evergreen Award for the second time in four years. Given by the General Services Administration National Furniture Center, the award recognizes organizations that proactively initiate programs such as recycling, affirmative procurement and waste reduction. Mohawk recently unveiled its GreenWorks Center, a recycling facility with the capacity to process all major types of synthetic carpet fiber and to recover 90% of those materials into usable products. Other innovations from Mohawk include Encycle, a PVC-free modular carpet backing that is 100% thermoplastic, SMART book, a sampling program that uses 63% less virgin raw materials than traditional carpet samples and ReCover, a reclamation program which accepts yardage, yarn, backing from any manufacturer.

12.23.07 | Zeeland, MI | Herman Miller's international headquarters, located in the United Kingdom, earned a LEED Gold rating. The headquarters, VillageGreen, was designed by Gensler and is Herman Miller's 12th LEED certification awarded by the USGBC and the seventh to achieve LEED Gold. Completed in January 2006, it also has achieved the United Kingdom's BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) Excellent award.
