IA Interior Architects Wins Environmentally-Friendly Design

11.15.07 | Dallas, TX | IA Interior Architects won the Most Environmentally-Friendly Design at Furniture 4 Kids, an annual charity event to support the Mavs Foundation, the Dallas Maverick charity which assists local youth through programs stressing education, good health and learning life skills. Twenty-six design firms were given identical sets of children size tables and chairs to re-design and decorate.  IA's idea was: Kids Goin Green, a gardening table designed to encourage children to take an active role in the natural environment. With compartments for clay pots, some vegetable seeds, a pail and gardening tools, the table was educational and inviting.

Moody•Nolan to Lead Development Of Akron-Summit County Public Library

11.15.07 | Columbus, OH | The Akron-summit County Public Library Kenmore Branch is the final stage of a project begun in 1997 to expand or replace 15 out of 17 library branches.  MoodyNolan will oversee the $2.5 million dollar project which is located on the site of the former Kenmore Fire Station.  The 11,500 sq. ft. facility triples the size of the current library, which will be converted to a parking lot.

Steffian Bradley Architects Win IIDA New England Fashion Show

11.15.07 | Boston, MA | Steffian Bradley Architects collaborated with vendors from Blueridge Carpet and Crossville Tile to win Best in Show at the Interior Design Boston Fashion Show on October 25.  The theme, What's Next? led SBA to think of the fluctuating state of water and its ability to symbolize the changes in all living things. The costumes represented Ice, Water and Vapor and were largely constructed of raw materials such as un-backed carpet, carpet yarn, fiber pellets and tiles. The costumes were modeled by SBA staff members.

Mohawk Highlights "Greenworks" Platform At Greenbuild

11.15.07 | Dalton, GA |  Mohawk Industries has created a new umbrella program, Greenworks, which places all green projects under a single platform, to allow its consumers, dealers and employees to better understand the full scope of Mohawk's environmental efforts. The umbrella program tells about the Greenworks Center for processing all types of synthetic carpet fiber and about the patent pending technology for processing 100% of the carpet fiber, backing and latex.  It also discusses the continuing programs for manufacturing efficiency and the educational efforts being made on all levels.

Chicago's Sears Tower And Merchandise Mart Going Green

11.15.07 | Chicago, IL | Sears Tower and the Merchandise Mart are being retrofitted to meet LEED certification. The Sears Tower, which opened in 1973 would become America's tallest "green" building. With support from the Clinton Climate Initiative, the Sears Tower and the Merchandise Mart, which did receive LEED Silver certification last week at Greenbuild, the buildings are being retrofitted with energy efficiencies and other green features

Virginia Tech's Architecture Program Ranks Number One

Skanksa Continues Work For Pharmaceutical Campus

AIA Awards Four 2007 Upjohn Research Grants

11.15.07 | Washington, DC | AIA announced the four projects chosen to receive Upjohn Research Grants for work beginning December 1 and completed within 18 months. The Upjohn Research program gives preference to proposals which team academics and practitioners.  They also must relate to one or more domains of architectural knowledge: Leadership, Practice, Design, or building Performance. Moroso Introduces The Panna Chair

Beyond Icons: Contemporary Chinese Art In Miami Exhibition, Dec. 6-9

Stantec To Design Office For The Control Group

GVK Architects To Renovate Offices At Rockefeller Center

11.12.07 | New York, NY | Gerner Kronick + Valcarel, Architects will renovate the 21st floor and part of the 17th floor of the Rockefeller Center building to create new offices for GAM, Global Asset Management. Their design incorporates glass and wood to create unique work environments.  The public areas and office fronts will use 4"x8" wood bricks mixed with glass, and wood-frame fabric ceilings will be used for the conference rooms. A completion date is slated for January 2008.
