2.23.10 | New York, NY | Humanscale and ABC Television’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition recently collaborated on the complete renovation of The Fishing School, a non-profit institution located in Washington, D.C. Humanscale’s involvement included a donation of 90 Cinto chairs and 16 CPU600 CPU holders.

The Fishing School was half of a two-part renovation project located in two different states and totaling more than 10,000 square feet—Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s largest and most ambitious build ever. Faced with the additional challenge of building high-performance, low-energy structures, the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition crew enlisted the help of the Department of Energy and Oak Ridge National Laboratories to build the most efficient buildings in the show’s seven-year history.

The Fishing School is a non-profit after-school program that provides underserved children and families of Washington, D.C.’s 6th and 7th wards with academic and parental support services. Humanscale’s donation not only provided seating and technology solutions for The Fishing School’s new classrooms, it helped meet the project’s environmental challenge. Humanscale’s products are designed for superior sustainability, and nearly all—including the highly recyclable Cinto chair—can be integral to the achievement of a number of valuable LEED credits.

The Fishing School build and its partner project—the renovation of the Tripp family home in Hyattsville, Md.—aired Sunday, Feb. 14 with a two-hour special on ABC.

The Emmy award-winning reality program Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, now in its 7th season, is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It is executive-produced by Anthony Dominici. David Goldberg is Chairman, Endemol North America. The show airs Sundays from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., ET on ABC.
