Allsteel Offers Link Light

2.11.10 | Muscatine, IA | Another bright idea has come to light at Allsteel Inc. With an eye on expanding its portfolio of workplace solutions beyond the norm of desking, panel systems, storage and seating, the company is offering the Allsteel Link light.  Designed by Peter Stathis, Link is high performance and high design, distinguished by an extraordinarily slim halo-shaped head and well-articulated and taut arm. It is the outcome of a partnership with San Francisco-based Pablo Designs, one of America’s leading design resources for lighting and other accessory furnishings.

A concentrated arrangement of high-power LEDs line the inner ring of the Link light, providing a brighter light output than most others in the category. Combined with optical diffusing film and a scratch resistant polycarbonate lens, the LEDs yield the right amount of focused light exactly where it’s needed. The head, conveniently forming its own handle, can be readily gripped and adjusted in a 180-degree rotation, remaining cool to the touch thanks to an advanced chip-on-board LED technology. Power is uniquely delivered through a conductive aluminum skin, eliminating internal wiring, and the articulated arm features precision-designed joints that maintain a fluid tension throughout its full range of motion. A high-low switch is discreetly located along the inner rim of the head maintaining its sleek, pared down style. The L-shaped base can sit within a corner using minimal workspace; an alternative clamp-on and panel mount is available, as well.

The Allsteel Link light also has a brilliant sustainability story behind it.
It uses only 7.5 watts of energy, which is 97% less than a task light using a comparable incandescent light source and 40% less than a CFL. Link is designed for an operational lifespan of at least 20,000 hours, providing a minimum of 10-15 years of daily use. Minimal components comprise Link, which traces back to efficient, low-waste manufacturing. Those lightweight components are designed for disassembly, making the entire light 97% recyclable.

Stathis has loaded Link light with personality:  It’s part tool, part toy; witty and whimsical; simple yet practical. He founded and heads Virtual Studio, a collaborative enterprise for industrial design and strategic development. A former director of the graduate design program at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Stathis has designed for brands ranging from the Museum of Modern Art to Lava Lite.

“The opportunity to include Link in Allsteel’s lineup of workplace products was irresistible, and the design is perfectly compatible with our brand ethos and aesthetic,” said Kris Yates, vice president of marketing. “In adding it to our offering, we’ve underscored our viability as a single-source provider for workplace and facilities designers and managers.”
Allsteel also recently added an extensive collection of graded in textiles being produced by HBF Textiles and has substantially grown its materials offering over the past few years.

According to Yates, Link light was previewed at NeoCon in June and has been enthusiastically received. In July, it snagged a prestigious Silver IDEA (International Design Excellence Award) presented by BusinessWeek.
The Allsteel Link light is available in black or silver and is currently available for order. For more information visit www.allsteeloffice.com/stride
