Center For Architecture Seeks Designs For Curtain Wall Systems
2.10.10 | New York, NY | The Center for Architecture is seeking innovative designs for curtain
wall systems by AIA New York members. The selected design will be built
at full-scale and featured for three months in the double-height space of
the Center for Architecture’s storefront as part of our 2010 theme of the
year exhibition, Integrate : Innovate.
Opening in the fall of 2010, Integrate : Innovate – building better together will be devoted to the field of construction. With the primary objective of educating the public about how buildings are assembled, the exhibition will also present profiles of innovative leaders in the building industry. Including contemporary case studies and historical material, the exhibition will chronicle how the U.S building industry has evolved and developed integrated, collaborative construction methodologies. From the physicality of curtain wall testing to the virtual space of BIM (Building Information Modeling), advances in the tools and techniques of construction will demonstrate how we are building smarter, greener and in more efficient and economical ways.
The curtain wall installation will be used as a hands-on tool for teaching the general public and students about how buildings are constructed, highlighting the interconnectedness of components and systems.
Designs will demonstrate:
Entries should include details of the connection of the system to the building’s structure and details of how the curtain wall integrates with the building’s interior systems and spaces.
Submission requirements (minimum):
In addition to original work, entrants may submit designs from recently commissioned and built projects. Entries must have the appropriate approval from the client for use in the exhibition.
