Perkins+Will First Architecture Firm To Win National Building Museum Honor Award
2.4.10 | New York, NY | Perkins+Will announced today that they will receive a 2010 National
Building Museum Honor Award for the company's commitment to civic
innovation in design, construction and education throughout its 75-year
history. The announcement marks the first time an architecture firm has
been selected as an Honor Award recipient since its inception in 1986.
Phil Harrison, Perkins+Will President and Chief Executive Officer, will
accept the award on Perkins+Will’s behalf during a gala event on May 11,
2010.
"Building socially-responsible environments requires two things: vision and experience," said Harrison. "Our goal has been to design buildings that honor the broader goals of society since Larry Perkins and Phil Will founded Perkins+Will in 1935. We strive to continuously evolve our practice and improve how people live, work and learn."
Among Perkins+Will's many achievements is its leadership in sustainable design. Perkins+Will was the first multi-office firm to commit to the 2030 Challenge, pledging that all projects be designed for carbon neutrality by the year 2030. To help the design industry achieve the 2030 Challenge, Perkins+Will developed the “2030 e2 Energy Estimating Tool” in 2009 which allows users to set target goals for energy efficiency, onsite and grid-supplied renewable energy and green power offsets (RECs) when designing new or retrofitting existing buildings. Perkins+Will also recently launched its “Precautionary List” to help people better understand hazards that may be present in building materials. The list highlights chemicals, which are listed by government agencies as having negative health issues and the classes of building materials where they might be commonly found, while offering available alternatives in an effort to push the building industry to embrace healthier buildings. In addition, Perkins+Will boasts more USGBC LEED® Accredited Professionals than any other design firm.
