KI And Pallas Textiles Earn GreenGuard Certifications
6.30.09 | Green Bay, WI | KI’s recent addition of furniture to earn GREENGUARD® Indoor Air Quality
Certification brings its total number of GREENGUARD Certified product
collections to 126. The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) recently
awarded this certification to all seating products manufactured at KI’s
High Point, N.C., facility, which largely manufactures lounge and healthcare
furnishing solutions.
“KI is pleased to increase its selection of products with GREENGUARD Certification,” said Norman Nance, IIDA, LEED AP, vice president of marketing for environmental initiatives, KI. “As a leader in furnishing solutions, KI ensures the highest environmental quality possible for its products and the space in which they are used.”
GREENGUARD Certification is a referenced standard for furniture and other interior product manufacturers specified in projects based on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Rating System. LEED is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified® furniture earns points toward projects receiving certification under the LEED for Commercial Interiors, LEED for New Construction, LEED for Core & Shell, LEED for Existing Building and LEED Canada for Commercial Interiors programs.
“KI products serve customers across a range of markets, including education, healthcare, corporate and government, which frequently use environmental responsibility as a key factor when making purchasing decisions,” said Nance. “These latest GREENGUARD Certifications further demonstrate KI’s commitment to sound environmental practices.”
To achieve GREENGUARD Certification, each product must pass a series of demanding tests required by GEI that confirms the product has low chemical emissions, which promotes better indoor air quality. GEI monitors these products each quarter to ensure they maintain low-emitting status. GEI’s mission is to advance public health and quality of life through programs that improve the quality of indoor air.
Seating products from KI that are now GREENGUARD Certified include the new Sela™ lounge collection; Soltíce® lounge and healthcare seating; Briar®, Flex™ and Three® seating and sleepover solutions; and various guest and multiple seating solutions. In addition, Polyurethane collections from Pallas Textiles, including Ground Breaking, Bounce, and Holy Cow, are now GREENGUARD® Indoor Air Quality Certified for use on KI products.
