6.30.09 | Austin, TX | A Green Building of America Award has been presented to Gus Garcia Middle School for Austin-based Pfluger Associates Architects' implementation of green building techniques on the facility. The architecture firm was selected among more than 2,500 entries and will be featured in the upcoming "Real Estate & Construction Review" magazine's Green Success Stories edition.

Pfluger Associates Architects, one of Texas' leading educational planning and design firms specializing in schools and sustainable architecture, executed design techniques that resulted in Gus Garcia Middle School receiving the award. The Austin Independent School District exceeds energy code requirements by 25 percent and was also awarded a three-star rating from the Austin Green Building Program.

Gus Garcia Middle School boasts a number of energy-saving features such as photovoltaic teaching panels, solar design, low volatile organic compounds and recycled building materials, energy-conserving fluorescent light fixtures, low flow faucets, among many other thoughtful sustainable techniques.

Pfluger Associates Architects was also recently presented with a 2009 Texas Environmental Excellence Award by Texas Governor Rick Perry and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for having the best water conservation project in the state for its work on Champion High School in Boerne, Texas.
