KI Genius Walls Contribute To New Surgery Center

6.26.09 | Green Bay, WI | The new Spivey Station Surgery Center in suburban Atlanta selected the revolutionary “three-in-one” design enabled by KI’s Genius architectural walls to support its emphasis on maximizing productivity, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness.

“From day one, KI understood our vision and what we wanted to accomplish,” said Melody Mena, director, Spivey Station Surgery Center. “We’ve designed a showcase facility that represents the future of healthcare delivery.”

With Genius walls, this medical facility’s 12-person conference room can easily take on different configurations. Moving the location of the four walls can expand the capacity of the conference room to 100, while taking out two of the walls can create a semi-open, L-shaped area to supplement the facility’s waiting room.

“We originally planned a static conference room, but Genius walls showed us how we could use this space in various ways to get more for our money,” said Mena. “We can also change the surface of the walls for different tasks—turning a wall into a whiteboard, for example. We now have a multi-use asset, rather than a one-use wall.”

With just four to five basic parts required, fewer than any other wall product, Genius walls offer quick installation with minimal disruption. Ease of installation also contributes to lower lifecycle costs for movable walls over drywall.

Another key consideration for Mena in selecting Genius walls was its ability to provide a strong sound barrier.

“A healthcare environment like ours demands the highest levels of privacy and confidentially,” she said. “Genius walls actually contain noise better than any other options we considered, including traditional walls.”

To optimize acoustics, Genius walls’ 3.5-inch thickness and 22-gauge steel shells for density enable a Sound Transmission Rating (STC) of 44-48. With one of the highest STC ratings of comparable wall products, Genius walls provide more acoustical privacy than standard drywall.

Frames for Genius walls come in anodized aluminum, wood veneer or powdercoat paint. Finishes include panels in glass, fabric, vinyl, wood veneer, writable/erasable surfaces and powdercoat paint.

“The versatility, aesthetic and acoustic qualities of Genius walls help us meet our objective of serving as a smart, patient-focused facility for providing innovative healthcare services,” Mena said.

In addition to Genius walls, Mena chose KI furniture to outfit the entire facility. The center includes Flex™ tables, bariatric chairs, recliners and multiple seating; Athens® tables; Engage® seating; Daylight® chairs; AerDyn® seating; Cinturón™ loveseats; True® Desking; and 700 Series® filing systems.
