Ten Promoted at HMFH Architect

learning environments, announced 10 staff promotions today. HMFH is
committed to making a positive and enduring contribution to the public realm,
with a majority of the firm’s projects in community-based and educational
environments. Current and recent clients include the City of Cambridge, Boston College, and the Boston Renaissance Charter Public School, among others.
Promoted to Senior Principal
George MetzgerGeorge Metzger, AIA is the president of HMFH Architects and has led the
firm’s practice in the design of schools, housing and community
facilities. A registered architect, George earned a Bachelor of Arts degree
from Princeton University and Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University
Graduate School of Design. He is the past president of the Boston
Society of Architects and serves on the board of directors of Community Design
Resource Center (CRDC), a new organization established by the Boston Society of
Architects and Boston Architectural College. Mr. Metzger is active in
numerous Boston and Cambridge professional and community organizations and is
the current president of the Central Square Business Association.
Laura Wernick, AIA, REFP, LEED AP is a registered architect, LEED Accredited Professional, and Recognized Educational Facilities Planner who is highly engaged in the national dialogue on architecture and education. Laura earned her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University. Laura was named the CEFPI (Council for Educational Facility Planners International) Northeast Regional Planner of the Year in 2004. Laura recently participated in a 24-hour design charrette sponsored by the American Architectural Foundation. The competition convened a gathering of architects, architecture students, and educators to conceptualize new kinds of environments for schools. She is currently serving as the Boston Society of Architects Public Policy Commissioner
Promoted to Principal
After graduating with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees from Framingham State College, Lori Cowles, AIA, LEED APwent on to earn a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Boston Architectural College. Lori is a registered architect and LEED Accredited Professional with more than 15 years of professional experience. She joined HMFH Architects in 1995 and has been project manager for many of the firm’s educational projects, including the Hanover High School, a Master Plan for the Gordon School, and the 21-school study of Newton Elementary and Middle Schools.
Lori joins Philip S. (Pip) Lewis, AIA, LEED AP as Principal of the firm. Pip earned a Master of Architecture degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan. He is a registered architect and LEED Accredited Professional, who has been with HMFH for 27 years. He currently serves as the vice chair on the Designer Selection Board for the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development. Pip is currently directing the adaptive reuse of a former factory for Boston Renaissance Charter Public School. Other notable projects include the Beaver Country Day School Visual and Performing Arts Center and the MATCH Charter High School.

Deborah Collins, AIA is a registered architect and a member of HMFH’s Design Committee. With more than 30 years of professional experience, Deborah earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Kentucky. She has been with HMFH for more than 17 years, serving as project architect for many independent school and college and university projects, including Princeton University Art Museum; Forrestal Storage Building; Framingham State College Crocker Hall Modernization; The McCallie School New Science Center; Beaver Country Day School Visual and Performing Arts Center and the Gann Academy New Athletic Center.
Chin Lin, AIA, LEED AP joined HMFH in 2000 and is currently the firm’s Director of Green Resources. He has overseen LEED and Mass CHPS certification processes, secured over $2.5 million in “green schools” grants and utility rebates for clients, and incorporated photovoltaics, daylight harvesting, wastewater reuse, and wind power into many notable projects. Current assignments include the sustainable design initiatives for Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, Boston Renaissance Charter Public School, Cambridge War Memorial and Brookline Town Hall. Chin is a registered architect, LEED Accredited Professional, and a member of both the Illumination Engineering Society of North America and the USGBC Formal Education Committee. He earned both a Master of Architecture degree and Bachelor of Science degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Steven Millington, AIA has been with HMFH for more than 22 years and has been a project manager on many educational projects including the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School; Everett High School; and Chelsea High School addition, among others. His is a registered architect with more than 25 years of professional experience. Steven earned his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania and Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Southern California.
Vasillios Valaes, AIA, LEED AP has been with HMFH for 20 years. He earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Vasillios is a registered architect and LEED Accredited Professional. His wide range of experience includes the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School; Cambridge War Memorial and Recreation Center; Brookline Town Hall; and Hanover High School, among others.
Arthur Duffy, AIA has been a key member of HMFH Architects for 25 years, providing leadership in construction technology. He oversees the design and construction process, manages the detailed production and coordination of project documents, and directs engineering consultants and contractors for quality assurance on building design. Arthur is a registered architect, and earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Boston Architectural College. Current projects include the Boston Renaissance Charter Public School and Cambridge Rindge and Latin School.

Tina Stanislaski, AIA, LEED AP has been with HMFH for more than 5 years. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Syracuse University in 1994. Tina is an active member of the Boston Society of Architects, where she serves on the BSA Educational Facilities Committee. She is a registered architect and LEED Accredited Professional. She has served as project architect for many educational projects including Everett High School; Foxborough Regional Charter School; East Bay Met School; and Hanover High School.
Gabriel Petino, AIA is a registered architect and currently serves as HMFH’s Construction Administration Manager. He has been with HMFH Architects for more than 9 years and brings a wide range of professional experience in the building industry to the firm. Gabriel earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Boston Architectural College where he remains involved with several committees including the Design Studio Instruction and Thesis Studio committee. Recent projects include Cambridge’s Rindge and Latin School and War Memorial and the Brookline Town Hall.
