D.C. Workshop Highlights Trends And Best Practices For Public And Private Sector Facilities
7.28.10 | Houston, TX | Federal, military and private sector business and facilities leaders from across the country will bring their built environment expertise to the nation’s capital next month for the fourth annual Facilities Management Workshop, held Aug. 26-27 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, 2500 Calvert Street,
Dupont Circle, in Washington, D.C.
A joint venture between the Society of American Military Engineers and the International Facility Management Association — in coordination with the National Academies of Sciences’ Federal Facilities Council — the two-day event features the theme “Achieving Organizational Objectives Through FM” and will address topics including facility management best practices, sustainability, asset management and managing government facilities. The Facilities Management Workshop program will run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, and 7 a.m. to noon on Friday, Aug. 27. The first day of the workshop will concentrate on facility management best practices, asset management and new perspectives on managing government facilities, while the workshop’s second day will focus entirely on energy management and sustainability. Representatives from the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Defense Department and General Services Administration, along with leading private sector and non profit personnel, will speak.
Presentations will consist of panel discussions, keynote addresses, table top exhibits and other networking activities. “I think attendees are going to find in our panels a huge wealth of knowledge, experience, breadth, depth and overall applicability to what they are doing professionally,” said Jon Martens, CFM, CFMJ, IFMA Fellow, facilities operations division manager for the County of Sonoma and a panel moderator. “You want to walk away from a conference with something you can immediately take and put into action, and that’s exactly what people can expect from this workshop.”
The workshop has been coordinated with IFMA’s CFM® Exam Review Course, immediately preceding the conference Aug. 24-25, also at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. Those preparing for their CFM exam are encouraged to register for the review course and attend both events. Those interested in attending the Facilities Management Workshop may register by Aug. 13. Members of the media are invited to attend at no cost.
